Sunny saturday

I don’t think you understand how much I appreciate this sun that we have been getting here in Bergen the last week. Imagine spending the majority of days walking through rain and seeing nothing but heavy clouds. That gets to you after a while. Ah. I try to spend as much time out in the sun as possible but the biggest (summer related) difference between my old lab and this is that the old one was located in a smaller lab building with green lawns and forrest. The lab where I work now is a top notch glass building on hospital grounds, meaning not that many lawns and trees in the area. What I am trying to say is that sneaking out to sit on the grass during the longer 20min+ incubations was much easier before.. haha.

On the other hand nowadays I have a great balcony (thank god for that. There is a severe lack of grass in Bergen) with a view of the mountains and a wonderful espresso machine for making frappes.

No worries I have a top on with straps down.

International wood festival

Bergen downtown is filled with these pieces of art. So much fun!

The best one is the functional and moving bridge.

After that stroll I walked to the fish market and bought some smoked salmon as well as strawberries and cherries. Mm..

Me? I’m just stretching shoes!

20120521-201845.jpg

I saw online that you can stretch leather by heating it with a hairdryer a couple of times. Why should I have a tight left shoe due to my overgrown left foot? I’m giving it a try and will let you know how it went later.

Might wear the other one to balance the hight when walking around, but that is just making it too easy in my opinion!

Baked potatoes w tuna

So damn good.

Put potatoes in oven.

Rest on the sofa

Defrost peas. Add some creme fraiche. Then some sourcream. A splash of strong mustard and some spoons of mayo.
Add two cans of tuna and some dill. If you want add cucumber and spices.
Done!

Bergens Avisen -Short article about the project

I am very, very happy to see all this public interest in the research of the gums and joints consortium (www.gumsandjoints.com). It was brought to my attention this morning that yet another article about the gums and joints research was published.

Please click on the picture below to get to the original article where you also can use google translate in the case that you are not norwegian or swedish.

Questions

I was challanged by Linda to answer the following questions truthfully (you find them in swedish at her blog). After answering them I am supposed to make up new ones for YOU to answer. Jeez…
Look at it as an opportunity to get to know something about me. Or just close the tab and don’t read..

1. If you were to be granted one wish, what would that be?
oh.. Hard one. Can I wish for life long happieness? For no one to ever be sad? If it has to be specific and non fuzzy I would say straight pretty teeth.

2. What is the weirdest thing you ever ate?
Instant noodles with chocolate at a school camp in the middle of the 90s. Don’t ask me why.

3. Describe yourself using three words
Emotional, good-girl-syndrome (that’s so one word!), “swedish” (and everything it stands for)

4. The without doubt best place you traveled and why?
Ummm.. Tokyo because that was the first time I was completely utterly on my own. Or Bergen for similar reasons. Being outside my comfort zone is something I hate but again it is at those times you develop the most.

5. What word/phrase do you use 200 times a day (at the moment)?
I have no clue? Is it visible in the blog? I actually think it is something as boring as “well…”

6. To whom did you place your last call?
My supervisor. If we are talking phones here? Because I only place work calls (norwegian) from my phone. Texting and skype on the other hand! (cheeper since friends and family are located abroad)

7. Top three best movies?
Hmm.. I don’t know! I liked Inception, Red and Never let me go

8. What was your last good deed?
Attending the cleaning day? What counts as a good deed? Letting my alcoholic neighbor in to the apt building because he is too drunk to keep track of his keys at 5am?

9. What is your favourite way to kill time?
Knock about on the internet.. Nothing specific.

10. What dish do you cook the best? (attach picture and recipe)
Are you kidding me?? I don’t cook anything worth inviting someone over for. I eat noodles with frozen veggies and sauce. I might cook some meat to eat with a ready sauce and fries now and then. It is on that level.

11. What would you like to learn!
How to write scientific papers really well..

For the sake of not letting this post mould in the draft bin I will publish it now and post the new questions for YOU to answer tomorrow. Ok? Well.. Obviously ok since you now read the whole post before getting here to the end!
So.. Talk to you tmrw

Norway is treating me well

What a day. I really have to say that this country is growing on me. Maybe I should force my family and friends to move to Bergen? Because really you guys.. I can’t see you being any worse off here. Norway is, as most of you already know, a great country to work and live in being a swede.

I am practicing my norwegian in writing every chance I get and today I got the reward. The guy that is renting his apartment to me emailed me and had some kind words to say about the development of my norwegian. It included words like “impressed” even. Yay to that!

Further, I have been positively surprised by the activity of the department of communication here at Bergen University. There is actually several twitter accounts active regarding university, research and hospital. And all of them are very good and well organized. That is impressive by my measures.

I like this. Al lot.
